Mr. Stephen Muia

Managing Director & Lead Consultant

Steve is a graduate of Economics and Business Administration from Kenyatta University and is currently a finalist in MBA (Strategic Management) at the University of Nairobi. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) and is a qualified Chartered Marketer. He is an expert in the insurance Industry with over 28 years’ experience. He was the Deputy Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Takaful Insurance Africa for—years. He has worked in the insurance industry in various capacities and rose from a Management Trainee to various Senior Management positions while at CIC Insurance Group, one of the largest insurance companies in Kenya. In 2011, he was seconded by CIC Insurance to set up Takaful Insurance of Africa and oversee the establishment of the company. He was General Manager in charge of General Takaful (Insurance) and was lateron promoted to Deputy Managing Director. In his tenure the company introduced a wide range of products and revenues rose to close to Kshs. 1 billion in a record 4 years. TIA Kenya had broken even earlier than was anticipated and made marginal profits in 2014, which is a major achievement given the nature of the insurance industry in Kenya.

He has worked in various capacities in the industry such as Research & Development Manager, Claims Manager, Underwriting Manager and Sales Manager during his long career. Other successes include; development of Loanguard, CIC’s cash cow with the highest growth rate, development of various products and repackaging of most of the company products, full implementation of AIMS as the main system for CIC operations. He participated in the re-launch and repositioning of CIC Insurance in the industry and successful monitoring and evaluation of CIC performance on the Strategic Plan issues.

He is a firm believer in the Takaful model having started working on it in the year 2000. It took him 11 years to be part of the team that rolled out the first Takaful Operator in Kenya and the region. He was in the core team that worked with the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Kenya to ensure the model was understood and accepted. He helped develop all the technical manuals for TIA Kenya and passionately promoted the ideals and values of the new concept in the Kenyan market. He also helped train staff from other African countries to help them understand and roll out Takaful. He helped open the first Takaful office in Somalia in 2013. By the time Steve left TIA Kenya, Somalia had 4 offices that were not only fully functional but profitable.

Steve left Takaful in December 2015 to pursue his passion in global Takaful consultancy. He also consultsin insurance, marketing, motivation and management. He is the Managing Director of Purpose Consult Limited. Purpose Consult was incorporated in Kenya in 2014 and focuses on Management Development, Sales and Marketing, Capacity Building, promotion of the Takaful concept globally, insurance, employee motivation, team building and social development.


Rose Kyalo

Executive Director – (Counselling & Community Development)

Rose is a career Community Development expert having worked for various International Non-Governmental Organizations before joining Purpose Consult on a full time basis. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from the University of Nairobi and is also pursuing a Masters of Arts Degree in Community Development and Rural Sociology at the same University. She is also pursuing Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology at Daystar University.

She has diverse skills gained from working and consulting for Child Fund International, World Vision Kenya, The Girl Child Network, International Labour Organization, and a few Community Based Organizations. Rose is an excellent trainer/facilitator who is very passionate about community empowerment and the rights of children. She is also trained in Monitoring and Evaluation of programmes with AMREF Kenya.

Rose is the Team Leader for the Counselling and Community Development at Purpose Consult.


Prof. Charles Mayaka

Associate Consultant (Marketing & Strategy)

Prof. Charles MAYAKA consults on Strategy, Organizational Development and Marketing in East Africa. He is the immediate Director for the Centre for Executive and Entrepreneurial Development (CEED) at the Chandaria School of Business (USIU) and the Academic Director of the 10000 Women Program (sponsored by Goldman Sachs Foundation), and the Agribusiness Project (sponsored by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation). Since the 1990s Prof. Mayaka has held leadership positions in various institutions; to mention a few: director Centre for Executive and Entrepreneurial development; the Coordinator Management and Marketing Programs at USIU; Head of Business Administration Department (Kenyatta University); Manager for the Case Development Project (sponsored by IFC and Global Business School Network (GBSN)); Lead Faculty and Coordinator in the Health Management Program (MDI), a program jointly organized by University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) Anderson School of Business and African Medical Research Foundation (AMREF) and sponsored by Johnson & Johnson.

Prof. Mayaka has consulting experience in business strategy and development, organizational development, leadership development and general management and has taught in Kenyan Universities for over 25 years and in the USA at Alliant International University and National University, in San Diego, California, USA.

Prof. Mayaka is passionate on developmental issues and is involved in designing and implementing Executive Development Programs for managers, Leaders and entrepreneurs to build capacity for value creation and development. He has done numerous consultancies for both private and public sector organizations on strategic management, organizational development and business growth and development.


Associate Consultant (Banking)

Mr.Kimuyu has over 9 years’ experience in the financial sector. Previously he worked for Faulu Kenya (Microfinance bank), Barclays Bank and Standard Chartered bank. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in business management (Banking and Finance), diploma in Business administration and currently pursuing his MBA. He was awarded degree of doctor of leadership and management philosophy PhD (Honaris Causa). He is involved in mentorship programs for the youth that create self awareness and offers a platform for the business incubation.

Cyprian is self motivated, accomplished business manager and expert in corporate strategy, corporate formation, financial modelling, portfolio investments management and marketing. He brings to Purpose a different approach in microfinance that adds more value to the business and the clients. He serves as a Consultant, Board Member and Director in the following companies ; Jubilant Capital Ltd, Jubilant International Foundation, AMFI-K (Association of Microfinance Institutions of Kenya), AMPK (Association of microfinance professionals of Kenya), Greengold Health Systems Ltd, Faida Capital Ltd and Talantas Insurance Agency Ltd. Cyprian is a dedicated Christian leader of no mean repute and a shining beacon of hope and inspiration to many. A dedicated leader who gives his time, ideas, wisdom, leadership and financial resources to make a difference in the lives of individuals. He specializes in the set up and incubation of Microfinance Banks.


Dennis Wambua

Bcom, CPA(K) – Associate Consultant (Finance & Audit)

Dennis is an Associate Consultant with over 11 Years in Financial Audit, Accountancy, Taxation and Financial Management Consultancy. He is responsible for the Finance & Audit function of Purpose Consult.

He holds a BCOM (Accounting Option) and CPA (K), qualification. He is a member of Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and a registered Practicing Accountant and Auditor, by the Registration of Accountants Board (RAB).

He has wide working experience gained from leading medium audit firms having been General Manager and Audit Manager at Muema & Associates and Muema, Kigotho & Associates, among others.His all-round experience on audit of small, medium and large enterprises or companies both private and public across the Republic of Kenya and East Africa Region.
